As part of the „Smart Rail Inspector“ research project, GEOhaus in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institut für Mikroelektronische Schaltungen und Systeme IMS, is developing a sensor phantom for the highly accurate measurement of damage to railway lines. GEOhaus, which is responsible for integrating the sensors into a coherent system, is now relying almost entirely on 3D printing in prototype development. In the meantime, two sensor holders have been successfully developed and in use.

In addition, 3D printing is used in the area of laser scanning. This is how the Bivfrost (1) mount, a 360 ° camera system, was created entirely from 3D printed parts.
